NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A 3-year-old boy was found dead with neck trauma in a Brooklyn apartment late Sunday—and a person of interest was taken into custody, police said Monday.

NYPD officers made the discovery around 9:45 p.m. while responding to a call from an apartment on New York Avenue, near Lenox Road, in East Flatbush.

The child was suffering from head and neck trauma, according to police.

EMS transported the boy to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County, where he was pronounced dead.

The medical examiner is working to determine his cause and manner of death.

A person of interest was in custody and being questioned in connection with his death, police said.

Sources told 1010 WINS that the person knew the child. PIX11 reported the mom had left her son with a family friend to be babysat at the time of his death.
