NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A teen boy on a scooter followed a woman through a Queens subway station and tried to mug her at knifepoint, but her screams foiled the would-be robbery, police said Wednesday.
The 44-year-old victim was walking on an E-line platform at the Elmhurst Avenue station in Elmhurst last Thursday when the teen—described by cops as 5 feet, 10 inches tall and 100 pounds—rode up to her at 10:30 p.m.
He asked to use her cellphone, but she declined to hand it over to him. When she walked to the mezzanine, he followed her on the scooter, whipped out a butter knife and demanded the phone, according to police.
She screamed for help, causing him to flee on the scooter, police said.
She was not physically injured during the attempted robbery.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
