Bronx apartment fire sends 3 firefighters, 1 resident to the hospital

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A fire in the Bronx Sunday morning sent three firefighters and one resident to the hospital, according to the FDNY.

Fire officials received a 911 call reporting a fire on the eighth floor of a 20-story building at 215 Alexander Avenue near East 137th Street at 11:01 a.m. Sunday, authorities said.

Video of the fire showed black and gray smoke pouring out of the eighth-story windows of the Mott Haven apartment complex.

Firefighters got the blaze under control by 11:43 a.m., with three firefighters and one civilian sustaining minor injuries.

The FDNY said that the firefighters were transported to New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and the resident was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln.

All victims are in stable condition.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
