NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A man lost part of his finger on a Bronx subway car Saturday in a struggle with a knife-wielding robber who attempted to steal his necklace, and police released photos of the suspect Sunday to aid their investigation.
At 5 p.m. on Saturday, a 27-year-old man was aboard a northbound 4 train heading toward the 170th Street station in the Bronx when a stranger approached him and initiated a conversation, police said.
The victim tried to move to another part of the train car, at which point the suspect pulled out a knife and tried to take off the victim’s necklace, police said.
In the heat of the struggle, the victim tried to grab the blade and part of his left index finger was severed, cops said.
Officials said the suspect fled in an unknown direction when the train pulled into the 170th Street station.
The 27-year-old walked himself to BronxCare Health and Wellness Center in the Claremont section of the Bronx for treatment, police said.
The suspect was last seen wearing a beige coat and is depicted in a photo provided by the NYPD.
