NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 31-year-old mom was charged on Tuesday after her newborn baby was found dead inside a bag in a Bronx home last year, officials said.

Lasasha Gouldbourne was charged with manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, assault and acting in a manner injurious to a child.

According to police, on Sept. 1, 2023, Gouldbourne gave birth to a baby girl inside her mother’s Bronx Park East apartment bathroom in Allerton.

When Gouldbourne left the bathroom she also left a bag of clothes, officials said. Her mother, who was aware of Gouldbourne's pregnancy, then went into the bathroom and found a newborn in the bag.

EMS rushed the infant to Montefiore Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, authorities said.

Gouldbourne was apprehended by police and taken to Bronx-North Central Hospital where she delivered a baby boy, a twin, following an emergency cesarean section, the NYPD said.

Gouldbourne was charged after the medical examiner’s office revealed the cause of death, police said.
