Bronx robbery investigated as hate crime due to anti-gay slurs

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Two unidentified suspects beat and robbed a 49-year old man while spewing anti-gay hate speech in the West Bronx Tuesday around 2:42 p.m. near the intersection of Davison Avenue and West Burnside Avenue, according to police.

Authorities suspect two men between the ages of 20 and 30 wearing all black clothing and balaclavas.

The suspects reportedly punched the victim, stripped him of his jewelry and grabbed his cell phone while accosting him with anti-gay language before running away. The stolen property has an estimated value of roughly $1,500.

The NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating as a result of the hate speech.

The victim was bruised and in pain, but was not seriously injured and refused medical attention, according to police.
