NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A robber choked a driver with a shoelace in Brooklyn, leading to a chaotic ride in which the driver hung out his van as it crashed into multiple vehicles and through a fence, police said Thursday.

The NYPD released a photo of the suspect they're searching for in last Friday morning's robbery in East Williamsburg.

The 56-year-old driver was operating a white Ford van at Skillman and Kingsland avenue around 4:30 a.m. when his passenger—described as a man in his 50s—started choking him with a shoelace, police said.

During the struggle, the passenger took control of the van as the driver hung out of the driver's side door, according to police.

The van slammed into multiple vehicles before crashing into a fence at 300 Skillman Ave.

The passenger took off on foot and was last seen headed southbound on Kingsland Avenue, police said.

The driver was taken by EMS to NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull, where he was listed in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.

It wasn't immediately clear if anything was stolen in the robbery.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
