NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Nine people, including one firefighter, were injured after being exposed to carbon monoxide in a Queens building on Friday night, the FDNY said.

Fire officials received a call just after 11:30 p.m. reporting a carbon monoxide incident at 54-17 Andrews Ave. #2L, located between Metropolitan Avenue and 55th Street in Maspeth.

Eight civilians were injured due to carbon monoxide exposure. The FDNY said that the exposure appears to have been accidental and due to a malfunction of the building’s furnace or boiler.

Two victims were found unconscious and are in critical condition, one victim was found semi-conscious and is in serious condition and the other five victims were treated for exposure and considered to have suffered minor injuries, the FDNY said.

One firefighter was also treated for carbon monoxide exposure. The injury is listed as minor.

The victims were transported to Wyckoff Heights Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian / Weill Cornell Medical Center for treatment.

"This was not a gas leak," National Grid told 1010 WINS in a statement. "We responded to a NYC Emergency Management call for elevated carbon monoxide readings, which upon investigation were determined to be coming from a malfunctioning appliance in the home."

The FDNY warns New Yorkers to have their home appliances, including heating equipment, checked and repaired as needed by a licensed professional.
