VIDEO: Cat survives jump from burning second-story apartment in Harlem

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A cat survived a jump from the window of a burning second-story apartment in Harlem on Saturday, video taken by a bystander shows.

The FDNY responded to an apartment near East 135th Street and 5th Avenue around 3 p.m. after a man allegedly locked himself in a room and set a fire, NBC New York reported.

A video taken by a passerby shows a scared orange cat clinging to a windowsill, surrounded by flames, before finally taking the plunge to the ground, where police officers were waiting.

A spokesperson for Animal Care Centers of NYC told the outlet the cat was "in pretty good shape" after the incident, but did suffer from smoke inhalation.

Five residents and two officers were injured in the blaze, according to the outlet. The man who allegedly started the fire was hospitalized and hadn't yet been charged as of Monday, the outlet reported.
