The bears are making their Manhattan debut soon.

All three bears are female and were orphaned as cubs in Montana. Two of them, Amber and Luna, are siblings, while Treena is unrelated. The siblings’ mother was illegally shot and the third was orphaned when her mother was euthanized by officials after entering residential areas in search of food.

The cubs, at the time, were too young to survive on their own. Wildlife officials rescued them and moved them in 2013 to Bronx Zoo, where they were initially cared for. They’ve been living there until now.

The bears quickly got used to their new home in Central Park Zoo, according to a Wildlife Conservation Society press release.

“The bears have settled in and are wonderful additions to the Central Park Zoo,” said Craig Piper, Director of WCS City Zoos. “They are enjoying the varied terrain and water features in the exhibit, and they have arguably one of the best views of the Manhattan skyline. As ambassadors for their wild cousins, their story will help people understand specific ways to safely coexist with wildlife and reduce human-bear conflict, whether with grizzly bears in the West or black bears in our own back yard.”
