HACKENSACK, N.J. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A former restaurant owner in Bergen County has been re-arrested on a sex assault charge, the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office said Tuesday.
Business owner Shalom Yehudiel from Aventura, Florida, who appeared on the Food Network show "Chopped," was indicted on charges of first-degree sexual assault and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office said in a statement Tuesday.
The investigation, led by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office and the FBI New York Field Office, revealed that Yehudiel allegedly had multiple incidents with a child, aged 16 or younger at the time.
According to NJ.com, the charges relate to a case Yehudiel was originally charged for in 2022. A judge dismissed the charges in August after the FBI failed to hand over video sought by the defense—but the video was eventually turned over, leading to his indictment by a grand jury.
Currently residing in Dade County, Florida, Yehudiel surrendered at the prosecutor's office in Paramus on Monday.
Yehudiel, owner of The Humble Toast, a Jewish deli, and La Cucina Di Nava, an Italian restaurant, remains in custody, with a court hearing scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.
