NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Notorious "Club Kid Killer" Michael Alig was found dead in his Manhattan apartment from a suspected heroin overdose on Thursday night, authorities said.

A friend discovered Alig, 54, in his Washington Heights home on W. 159th Street just before midnight on Christmas Eve, officials told the New York Post.

Plastic bags that may have contained heroin were found in the apartment by detectives, the officials said.

The Club Kids were outrageous and successful New York City party promoters in the 1980s and early 90s. They were also heavily into drugs.

Alig served 17 years in prison after pleading guilty to murder in the death of his drug dealer Andre "Angel" Melendez in 1996. He was released from prison in 2014.
