NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – The NYPD arrested five people on Wednesday following the discovery of cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl in a Queens Village home days after a one-year-old's tragic death from fentanyl exposure at a Bronx daycare, according to police.
Officers entered the single-family home on 100th Road in Queens Village around 5 a.m. while a 10-year-old child was asleep in a second-floor bedroom.
The drugs were discovered across the room from where the child was sleeping.
"What makes this crime even more dangerous, significant is that a 10-year-old child was in close proximity to the substances recovered at this location," Deputy Chief Jerry O'Sullivan said during a news conference on Wednesday.
Police found four-kilo presses, approximately four kilos of cocaine and heroin. There was also evidence of mixed fentanyl. "This was a large operation. We're not done here yet," O'Sullivan said.
The police also found four guns including a high-capacity rifle, along with some handguns.
"I don't know how anyone could think it's okay," O'Sullivan said.
Five residents of the home are facing charges that include criminal possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a weapon, endangering a child's welfare, using drug paraphernalia illegally, and possessing a narcotic drug.
