WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- A Columbia University Facilities vice president has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13 at his home in New Jersey, prosecutors said Tuesday.
Marcelo Velez, 56, of Woodcliff Lake, has been charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault by sexual contact and endangering the welfare of a child, the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office said in a release on Tuesday.
Velez is Columbia University Facilities' vice president for the Manhattanville Development, according to the school's website.
Prosecutors say Velez "engaged in sexual acts with a child under the age of 13" at his Woodcliff Lake home.
Woodcliff police arrested Velez at his home on Monday, according to the prosecutor's office.
He is being held at the Bergen County jail and is expected to appear in court in Hackensack at an unspecified date and time. His attorney information wasn't immediately available Tuesday.
A Columbia spokesperson on Tuesday told 1010 WINS Velez has been placed on administrative leave, adding that the university "will cooperate fully with law enforcement officials investigating this matter."
