NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Con Edison is asking its entire New York City customer base on Tuesday to conserve energy as a historic heat wave continues for a second day.
With record-breaking temperatures hitting 100 degrees in Central Park, power outages have become a problem across the five boroughs with thousands losing power over the past two days. To avoid issues like extensive outages in the Bronx on Tuesday, Con Edison had to reduce voltage to some neighborhoods in Brooklyn and Queens.
"Our crews have been working around the clock in sweltering temperatures, and have restored service to more than 34,700 customers in the Bronx since the heat wave began. We urge customers to use energy wisely during the heat and conserve where they can," the company posted on X.
The company asks customers to limit unnecessary use of air conditioning and refrain from charging electric vehicles unless necessary.
Customers can report outages and check service restoration status at www.conEd.com/reportoutage,or with our mobile app for iOS or Android devices, orby calling 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633).
