NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A construction worker in the Bronx was hospitalized with serious injuries Thursday after becoming trapped in a trench collapse.

Authorities said emergency personnel received a call about a construction worker that was trapped at a residential building on Mosholu Avenue in the North Riverdale section of the borough around 9 a.m.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the man trapped in a trench approximately 10-feet deep and 3-feet wide. His lower body had become pinned after trench supports collapsed.
The rescue took around two hours, FDNY officials said. Rescue medics were in the trench the entire time to treat the victim’s injuries.

Approximately 20 units and over 100 firefighters and EMS personnel responded to the scene.
Authorities said they were eventually able to remove the man from the trench and he was transported to Jacobi Medical Center in serious but stable condition.
It remains unclear what caused the supports to collapse, or what the man was doing inside the trench at the time of the incident.
There was no update on the man’s condition as of 5 p.m. Thursday. His name and age were also not disclosed.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing.
