NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Love was in the air in Times Square on Valentine's Day as a New Jersey couple had a wedding ceremony in the place they met more than a decade ago.
It's something Denise and Robert Marte always wanted to do—have a big, splashy wedding ceremony. It finally happened at W. 46th Street and Broadway on Sunday.
The couple was actually married in front of a judge back in 2009, but it was such a simple ceremony they don't even have a photo of it. Now they have four children between them and live in Bloomingdale, New Jersey.
"We were married in court and we were pregnant at the time. Then we had another child after, then we purchased our home. So we never had a wedding ceremony, we never had any celebration," Denise said.
She said they finally got it right at Sunday's ceremony at the Crossroads of the World, where they first met. This time there were TV news cameras, microphones, music and confetti.
"She said I have a surprise for you," Robert said. "We met here 12 years ago. It was like a full circle. We're back where we met right from the beginning."
"It pretty exciting that we were able to come back and celebrate here with our family and friends," Denise said.
The wedding ceremony came with a free honeymoon to Hawaii, courtesy of their host, the Times Square Alliance.
Two other happy couples also had surprise wedding proposals in Times Square on Sunday.
