NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Saturday directed the state police's Hate Crimes Task Force to help investigate anti-Semitic graffiti found at a Long Island elementary school playground this week.

The hateful graffiti was found at Setauket Elementary School in East Setauket last Sunday, according to Suffolk County Police.

Newsday reported that community members found the graffiti—including anti-Semitic symbols and language—carved into playground slides. It has since been removed.

Cuomo directed state police to help the Suffolk County Police Hate Crimes Unit investigate.

"I am appalled at media reports on the discovery of anti-Semitic graffiti on Setauket Elementary School's playground equipment on Long Island," Cuomo said in a statement Saturday.

"This hateful graffiti is diametrically opposed to the values of tolerance and understanding that are pillars of the society we've built in New York State, and the fact that it was found in a place of learning for young children makes it even more disturbing," Cuomo said.

No arrests have been reported, according to Newsday.
