Cyclist struck, killed by box truck in Hell’s Kitchen

NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A cyclist was struck and killed in Hell’s Kitchen on Friday afternoon, and the NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad is investigating.

It happened at about 2:10 p.m. at West 50th Street and 11th Avenue. At the intersection, the man cycling was struck by an oncoming box truck.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the box truck remained at the scene, police said,

Citizen App footage from the scene shows officials taking measurements and documenting the scene.

There have been no arrests and an investigation is ongoing.

According to a report by the city's Department of Transportation from March, there were 30 biking deaths in 2023, 23 of which were e-biking deaths. This total brought cycling deaths to the highest level since 1999.
