NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A Bill de Blasio impersonator gave a fake interview to the Times of London, which published the piece critical of NYC mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani, who de Blasio has endorsed.

The newspaper quickly pulled the article Tuesday, shortly after de Blasio got word of it and slammed it as “entirely false and fabricated.”

De Blasio, who has been an outspoken supporter of Mamdani, posted on X: “It was just brought to my attention and I’m appalled. I never spoke to that reporter and never said those things. Those quotes aren’t mine, don’t reflect my views.”

In the fake article, “de Blasio” was quoted as saying of Mamdani’s campaign promises: “In my view, the math doesn’t hold up under scrutiny, and the political hurdles are substantial.”

The real de Blasio reiterated his support for Mamdani on Tuesday evening, writing on social media, “I fully support [him] and believe his vision is both necessary and achievable.”

The Times of London, a more than 200-year-old paper, told the New York Times that the article was up for about two hours and was unpublished “after discovering that our reporter had been misled by an individual falsely claiming to be the former New York mayor.”
