NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Ninety-seven percent of tested COVID-19 cases in New York City in the past four weeks were delta variant cases, but the five boroughs’ infection and hospitalization rates are on the decline, data released Thursday shows.
The delta and alpha variants were “the most widespread variants in the city” this past month, with the former representing 97% of tested cases and the latter representing 1%, NYC Health data shows.
But while the number of confirmed cases in the city has been holding steady within the past month — with a daily average of 1,388 over the last 28 days — daily average infection rates and hospitalizations have declined, according to the data.
The number of confirmed deaths has been trending upward, with a 28-day daily average of seven, but the citywide transmission rate began trending downward between Aug. 19 and Aug. 23, the data shows.
