NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Fashion designer Donna Karan was hospitalized for COVID-19, she revealed this week during a virtual fundraiser for NYC mayoral candidate Ray McGuire.

Queens-born Karan, 72, said she was taken care of by hospital staff, but she had concerns about the welfare of the nurses. She did not identify which hospital she was admitted to.

"I was in the hospital the other day. I have COVID. I experienced it, and one of my biggest things has always been healthcare," Karen said during the "Women for Ray" fundraiser. "Where is the care in health care? There is disease care … Who's caring for the nurses? What I saw in these hospitals is unacceptable."

She added, "I was taken care of absolutely amazingly. And I looked at these nurses and I asked, 'Did you get the vaccine?' And she said, 'No.' I said, 'How could you be here?' She said, 'Because that's what I do. I'm here to help. I've been speaking to all the nurses and what they've been doing over the past year is unbelievable and we must take care of the nurses."
