NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Police are investigating a shooting that happened outside a Bronx apartment building early Sunday morning, killing one man and sending another to the hospital.
Officers responded to 2693 Morris Ave., near Kingsbridge Road, just after 1 a.m. on Sunday and found the two victims, 33-year-old Alvin Ortiz and another man, age 36.
Ortiz was struck in the left arm and chest, while the older man was hit in the left arm and wrist, police said.
EMS rushed both men to St. Barnabas Hospital, but Ortiz could not be saved. Officials said that the 36-year-old victim remains at the hospital in stable condition.

Police said that Ortiz is from the Hudson Valley city of Newburgh, about 60 miles from where he was killed in the Bronx.
The shooting marks the ninth murder this year in the 52nd Precinct, which encompasses the northern Bronx, according to the latest NYPD data.
By this time in 2023, there were also nine murders, but shooting incidents and shooting victims in the precinct are both up. There have been 55% more incidents of gun violence and 121% more victims, police data shows.
There have been no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
