NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- Police announced DWI charges for a woman who allegedly crashed into a police vehicle on the Belt Parkway early Monday morning, with the chain reaction killing a man.
Police said that an investigation found a BMW driving in the left lane of the westbound Belt Parkway near Exit 15 in Brooklyn rear-ended a Honda. Both drivers, a 55-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man, remained at the scene.
The marked NYPD vehicle that responded to the scene was stopped in the left lane with its lights flashing when a Nissan Rogue collided with it, police said.
The Nissan, which police said was traveling at an apparent high rate of speed, hit the back of the police vehicle, which then struck the 35-year-old man, who was standing next to his car.
The 35-year-old man was launched over the center guardrail and onto the eastbound side of the Belt Parkway, according to cops.
The man, identified as Peter Tse of Brooklyn, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the driver of the Nissan Rogue remained at the scene and was taken into custody.
Audrey Edmond, 35 of Brooklyn, was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while ability impaired - alcohol, manslaughter, vehicular manslaughter and a speeding violation.
Police said there were no injuries reported among 55-year-old woman involved in the original crash and any police officers at the scene.
