NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 47-year-old drunk driver was charged after he fatally struck a man at a Brooklyn intersection on Wednesday evening, authorities said.
At approximately 6:48 p.m., police responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Glenwood Road and East 105 Street in Canarsie.
A preliminary investigation determined that a 2017 Dodge Caravan driven by Gary Turner was traveling westbound on Glenwood Road, as 68-year-old Louis Garcia was attempting to cross Glenwood Road from north to south in the west crosswalk.
Garcia was struck by the vehicle and thrown to the pavement, suffering severe trauma to the head.
EMS responded to the location and transported him to Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.
Turner remained at the scene and was taken into custody.
Following an investigation by the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad, officials charged Turner with vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, driving while intoxicated, equipment violation, and driving while ability impaired.
