NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A Bronx man has been arrested and charged for murder after allegedly hitting and killing a man in Queens last month, police said.

The NYPD found Zahir Williams, 24, within the confines of the 114th precinct at 11 p.m. on Thursday and charged him with murder, gang assault and vehicular assault, officials said.

Francis Ortega, 50, was identified as the man killed in Astoria after Williams allegedly hit him with a BMW near Steinway Street and Astoria Boulevard on Oct. 20, police said.

According to a report by ABC7, surveillance video recovered by detectives showed that Williams and Ortega engaged in a verbal dispute that escalated when Williams, and potentially another man, beat Ortega.

The report states that Williams was run over while on the ground after the beating.

Williams abandoned the BMW and fled on foot, police said.

Police could not yet confirm if there was another person present with Williams as it is an ongoing investigation.
