NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A 30-year-old driver was arrested after he struck and killed a 6-year-old girl as she was crossing the street in Brooklyn Tuesday night, the NYPD said.

Qiuhua Zhu, of Sunset Park, was driving a Lexus SUV south on 12th Avenue, near 67th Street, in Dyker Heights around 8 p.m. when he crossed over the yellow pavement markings into the oncoming traffic lanes, police said Wednesday.

As Zhu was traveling south in the northbound lane, he turned left at the intersection, hitting 6-year-old Hiromi Tamy, who was crossing 67th Street in the crosswalk with the light in her favor, the NYPD said.

The girl, who suffered severe head and body trauma, was pronounced dead at Maimonides Medical Center, police said.

Zhu initially continued to drive east on 67th Street, but returned to the scene after driving around the block, the NYPD said.

He was arrested and faces charges including manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, vehicular assault, reckless endangerment, failure to yield to a pedestrian and driving the wrong direction on a one-way street, police said.

His attorney information wasn’t immediately available Wednesday.
