NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – Police are investigating after a driver fatally struck a man crossing a Queens street early Tuesday morning.
Cops received a call at around 5:20 a.m. to the intersection of 70th Street and Roosevelt Avenue in Jackson Heights following reports of an unconscious and unresponsive man found.
The victim was found with severe head and body injuries, police said.
According to the initial investigation, the man, believed to be in his 30s, was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street. It's unclear if the victim had the walk sign at the time.
The driver involved in the incident remained at the scene when authorities arrived.
EMS transported the victim to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst, where he was pronounced dead.
An investigation is ongoing.
The name of the victim was not released as the family has not been notified, police said.
