NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- The NYPD announced a crackdown on drugs in Washington Square Park Tuesday, which they say led to six arrests.
NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea said Wednesday that six people were arrested for drug charges in the Greenwich Village park.
Among those arrested were two men on parole, one with a felony warrant and a combined 169 arrests between them, according to police.
Shea said crystal meth and crack were recovered as part of the operation.
Police said those arrested were Elijah Anderson, 26, Dimitri Konstant, 55, Matthew Pritchell, 51, Charles Singleton, 53, Jodi Hamilton, 39, and Jean Auguste, 33. Five of the six are New York City residents, while Auguste's address was not provided.
All of the men except Auguste were charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, according to authorities. Auguste faced possession of a controlled substance and possession with intent to sell charges.
Last month, three people were found dead from suspected drug overdoses in and around Washington Square Park in less than a week, according to police.
