NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A New York City sanitation worker was arrested on Monday after he allegedly shot a teen accused of stealing his car in the Bronx and an innocent bystander, according to police and reports.
Richie Torres, 44, shot at his black Chevy Tahoe after the 16-year-old boy jumped inside the car near Trafalgar Place and 176th Street around 10:20 p.m. on April 4, police told the New York Post.
One of the bullets struck the teen in the shoulder, and another bullet hit a 28-year-old innocent bystander who was sitting inside a nearby car, police and sources told the paper.
Torres fled the scene and did not report his car stolen, according to the report. The car was later found abandoned nearby.
He was reportedly arrested while at work Monday. He was charged with attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment, police said.
The teen was charged with criminal possession of stolen property.
WABC-TV reported Torres has worked for the department since 2005 and was suspended without pay.
