NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Emilio Delgado, who played Luis on "Sesame Street" -- one of the show's first minorities -- for over 40 years, died Thursday. He was 81.

Delgado died surrounded by family at his New York City home, succumbing to multiple myeloma, which he was diagnosed with in December 2020.
His wife, Carol, confirmed the beloved actor's death to TMZ.

The outlet reports the Mexican-American star who played Luis, the "Fix-It-Shop" owner on the iconic show took break from the show in the late 80s, but returned within a year.
His wife told TMZ that her husband was still a working actor up until the COVID-19 pandemic, playing the lead in the play "Quixote Nuevo" in three cities before productions were shut down. He even did some voiceover work in January.
