NEW YORK — The Empire State Building will be lit red on Thursday night to celebrate the epic return of New York Comic Con.

The four-day event, which was held virtually last year because of the pandemic, kicked off Thursday at the Javits Center.

The convention, which features exclusive programs and celebrity panels, will see a mix of in-person and virtual events this year.

The annual event is the East Coast's largest pop culture convention and draws fans from all over who dress up as their favorite characters from comics, movies, television shows, video games and more.

"Star Trek" actors William Shatner and George Takei, wrestler-turned-actor John Cena, and Hayden Christensen of "Star Wars" fame are among this year's celebrity guests.

Attendees over the age of 12 must show proof of vaccination.
