NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- On Monday, the Empire State Building will shine its world-famous tower lights in red, black and green in honor of Juneteenth.
The building will be illuminated in the colors Monday night following an event-packed weekend in the city for Juneteenth.
Gov. Kathy Hochul also announced several other landmarks in the city will be illuminated to mark the day, including One World Trade Center, the Kosciuszko Bridge, the Moynihan Train Hall and the LIRR East End Gateway at Penn Station.
Juneteenth is a federal annual holiday that honors and commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States, which occurred in 1865 after the Civil War.
Also known as "Freedom Day" or "Emancipation Day," the holiday is celebrated across the country with festivals, parades and concerts.
