NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A man who previously served six years in prison for a hit-and-run in which he hit and killed a Bronx woman was charged with a DUI and refusal to take a breathalyzer test, according to police.
Michael Moreno, 33, was charged with the DUI following a collision at 47th Street and Queens Boulevard on Saturday just before 3 p.m., the NYPD said.
Moreno was allegedly driving a Honda in Sunnyside when he struck multiple vehicles and a 14-year-old pedestrian, cops said.
Seven adults were injured in the crash and taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst for minor injuries, and the 14-year-old girl was taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital to treat head pain, police said.
Police confirmed that Michael Moreno is the same man who was convicted of a hit-and-run in 2016 for fatally hitting a 27-year-old bicyclist on the City Island Bridge in the Bronx the year before.
Moreno fled the scene but later turned himself into the Bronx District Attorney’s Office.
He was convicted of criminally negligent homicide and leaving the scene of an accident and served six years for the crime.
Local City Council member Julie Won of the 26th district, which covers Sunnyside, condemned the alleged crime to 1010 WINS.
“Not only did you risk your own life … there are so many other people that you have now just put at risk because of your own irresponsible and lack of judgement,” Won said.
