NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A man claiming to be a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent attacked and tried to rape a woman on a Brooklyn Heights street on Tuesday, according to police and sources.
The 51-year-old victim was standing in the lobby of a building at Montague and Henry streets around 10:50 a.m. when the man approached her.
"Show me your ID, I'm with immigration," he told her, according to law enforcement sources.
He then forced her into a basement stairwell and started punching her, police said.

He tried to rape her in the stairwell before stealing her chain, cellphone and purse, according to police.
He fled the scene and was last seen running on Montague Street towards Henry Street, police said.
The victim suffered lacerations to the face and bruising throughout her body. She was transported by EMS to an area hospital in stable condition.
The incident comes as ICE has stepped up immigration enforcement operations in the five boroughs, with roughly 100 people reportedly arrested in the city in a single week this month.
