NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A woman was beaten with a baton inside a Midtown subway station earlier this month, and police released photos of a suspect on Tuesday to aid their investigation into the violent crime.
The attack happened at the Lexington Avenue-53rd Street subway station at about 7:12 a.m. on Oct. 3.
A 33-year-old woman was waiting for a northbound E train when an unidentified individual followed her after they engaged in a verbal argument, authorities said.
The assailant then took out a black and silver baton with a pointed edge from his backpack and struck the woman multiple times about the body, causing pain and swelling, police said.
Medics transported the woman to NewYorkPresbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in stable condition after the suspect fled on foot to parts unknown.
Authorities released surveillance images of a suspect they described as a man between 25 and 35 with a medium build. He was last seen wearing a light-colored hooded sweater, light-colored sweatpants, black sneakers and a black face mask.
