NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 97-year-old woman was reportedly found dead Friday in a Lower East Side housing complex, and police sources said a family member might be responsible.
The New York Post reported that the woman was found unresponsive inside the Baruch Houses on Columbia Street. Police said she was found with bodily injuries and a cut on her wrist at about 9 a.m.
Police sources told The Post that the victim's 50-year-old niece confessed to the killing to her teen son. Her son then called police, and she was take into custody.
The niece reportedly has a history of mental health issues.
No charges have been filed, according to reports, but the 50-year-old has been taken for psychiatric evaluation.
The medical examiner will determine the 97-year-old's cause of death, The Post said.
