Far Rockaway middle school closes over COVID outbreak; 2nd Queens closure this week

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A Queens middle school was forced to temporarily close due to a COVID outbreak, the second school in the borough to shut down this week.

Academy Village in Far Rockaway, will be closed and go fully remote for the next 10 days, according to the Department of Education’s COVID case map.

Students there are expected to return to the classroom on Monday, Nov. 22.

Over the past week, the school reported 14 cases among students and two among staff, according to state data.

No teachers have tested positive at the school since the school year started.

Academy Villages shares a building with two other city middle schools, M.S. 053 Brian Piccolo and charter school Success Academy Far Rockaway which will currently remain open.

Earlier this week P.S. 166Q in Astoria temporarily closed over a COVID-19 outbreak.
