NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A wheelchair-bound girl was killed in a Bronx fire that also injured a seven-year-old boy on Saturday afternoon, the NYPD said.

Emergency personnel responded to a 4:16 p.m. 911 call at 4223 Boyd Ave. in Wakefield, officials said.


First responders found an unconscious 12-year-old girl, who used a wheelchair, in the building. She was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

A seven-year-old boy was injured in the blaze, and he was transported to Jacobi Medical Center in stable condition, police confirmed.

A 47-year-old man was also at the scene but refused medical attention.

Fire marshals are conducting an ongoing investigation into the fire.

The New York Daily News, who interviewed Rosemarie Thompson, the victim's mother, reported that her name was Skylar Michilin and she died hours before her 13th birthday.
