Casey Skudin, 45, was in his car with his wife and two sons in Asheville when heavy winds knocked over a tree that landed on their vehicle around 4 p.m. on Friday.

His youngest son was hospitalized with minor injuries. His wife Angela and their oldest son only suffered “a few scratches,” according to a post on her Instagram page. Casey was crushed to death by the tree.

Skudin worked for Ladder 137 in the Rockaways and had served with the FDNY for 16 years.

Sunday would have been his 46th birthday.

“It is with great sadness that I announced the passing of my Rock, my partner of 20 years Casey Skudin you are so very loved and so missed..our family will be healing for eternity,” wrote Angela on Instagram. “Please hug your loved ones because I can guarantee you all that nothing is guaranteed.”
