NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — FDNY resecures sprung into action when a worker on a scaffold was struck by falling metal from the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge on Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.
It happened just after 9:30 a.m. when the metal fell and hit the worker in the leg. He didn't fall as he was in a harness, leading fire officials to go up and rescue him.
The MTA closed the Manhattan and Bronx-bound section of the bridge during the rescue, and identified the man as an independent contractor.
He was transported by EMS to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem with moderate injuries, and was listed in stable condition, authorities said.
The bridge has since reopened.
