Female correction officer, 33, choked by Rikers inmate: Report

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 33-year-old female correction officer was injured when a Rikers inmate choked her Friday night, according to a report from The New York Post.

According to the report, at about 7:50 p.m., the correction officer was sitting at her post when inmate David Rhinehart allegedly began acting strange and made erratic movements, spinning around and throwing himself at the floor.

Rhinehart, an alleged Crips gang member then allegedly grabbed her by the throat, prompting the officer to fight back.

According to documents, three inmates eventually got Rhinehart off the officer, who was transported to an area hospital afterward.

An investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
