NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — An undercover operation in the Bronx left 10 people, including eight members of law enforcement, injured in a fentanyl spill on Tuesday, sources told 1010 WINS.

A taskforce comprised of the NYPD, New York State Police and Drug Enforcement Administration sent multiple undercover operatives to an apartment inside 780 Garden St. in Belmont, located down the hall from a daycare.

Undercover members of law enforcement were buying fentanyl when a state trooper and NYPD detective began feeling sick because of the high concentration of drugs in the air, sources said.

FDNY Hazmat, firefighters and EMS were called to the building at about 3 p.m. to evaluate exposure following the reported fentanyl spill, the FDNY said.

Eight law enforcement officials and two civilians sustained minor injuries, according to the FDNY. The hazmat team assisted in decontaminating those affected, and everyone was evaluated by EMS.

The state trooper was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital and soon released.

Two people were arrested, sources said.

This is a developing story.
