NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – More than 100 people were rescued after a ferry ran aground and took on water in Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon, officials said.
The Seastreak ferry ran aground in the area of the Bushwick Inlet at Quay and West streets in Greenpoint around 4:15 p.m., according to the FDNY.
About 100 people aboard the ferry were rescued, and there were no injuries, according to police.
Citizen App video shows people being escorted off of the ferry and onto another boat.
FDNY marine and land units were on the scene assessing the ferry, as the vessel was taking on water, fire officials said. The U.S. Coast Guard said it also responded.
The Commodore ferry was traveling from Highlands, New Jersey, to East 35th Street in Manhattan at the time.
In a statement Saturday evening, Seastreak said that the ferry lost power and steering on the East River and drifted into the Bushwick Inlet, where it hit ground.
Seastreak said the Coast Guard and the FDNY helped the Commodore crew get all 105 passengers to safety. Rescue boats were brought in to help with the evacuation.
The cause of the mishap was a mechanical issue, according to Seastreak, which did not elaborate.
