NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A fire at a Staten Island substation on Wednesday afternoon has caused 3,700 residents to lose power, Con Edison said.

According to the energy provider, a fire, of which the cause is unknown, occurred at a substation in Dongan Hills and is currently being investigated.

Con Edison hopes to restore energy as quickly and safely as possible, a spokesperson said.

Video of the fire shows flames and black smoke pouring out of the fenced-in high-voltage electric system facility located near Hylan Boulevard and Dongan Hills Avenue.

There were no injuries reported in relation to this fire.

ABC7 is reporting that the cause of the fire was a transformer.
