NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Several people had to be rescued by firefighters Wednesday morning after a fire tore through a Brooklyn synagogue, authorities said.

Citizen App video shows the gutted synagogue at 49th Street and 18th Avenue in Borough Park after the fire was brought under control around 8:45 a.m.
There were services Wednesday morning at the synagogue, which is on the first floor of a private home. Flames and smoke tore through the building as dozens of firefighters responded.

People who lived on the second floor of the building had to be rescued by firefighters after the fire spread.
Authorities said four people were treated at the scene.
It's unclear what started the fire. An investigation is ongoing.
