NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – An American Airlines flight from New York City headed to Madrid was diverted to Boston after reports of a cracked windshield, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
Massachusetts State Police said an alert was declared at 9:46 p.m. for the aircraft, Flight 94, a Boeing 777, which departed from John F. Kennedy International Airport. The plane landed safely at around 10 p.m. at Boston Logan International Airport, according to the FAA.
An American Airlines spokesperson said that the flight diversion was “due to a maintenance issue.”
After a safe landing, the airplane was taken out of service to be inspected.
“We never want to disrupt our customers’ travel plans and apologize for the inconvenience this has caused,” the AA spokesperson said.
The FAA is investigating the incident.
Passengers will re-depart for Madrid on Thursday on a replacement aircraft.
