NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — A Washington D.C. jury convicted a former NYPD officer from Queens for her role in the Jan. 6 Capitol riots, the Department of Justice announced Friday.
Sara Carpenter, a 53-year-old former cop from Richmond Hill, was found guilty of felony civil disorder, felony obstruction of an official proceeding and five misdemeanors.
Carpenter was caught on surveillance cameras wandering around the Capitol Rotunda with a tambourine for a little over half an hour during the 2021 Capitol riots in which supporters of former President Donald Trump breached the Capitol Building in an attempt to stop congress from certifying President Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory.
Carpenter screamed “I’m a f***ing animal” as she pushed police officers who were guarding a hallway to the Senate chamber. She also slapped police as they attempted to hold back her advance into the Capitol Building.
“The breach was made. It needs to calm down now. Congress needs to come out. They need to certify Trump as president,” she proclaimed as she exited the building. “This is our house.”
Carpenter’s sentencing is slated for July 14.
Since Jan. 6, 2021, more than 999 people have been arrested in almost every state for their roles in the riot, according to the DOJ.
