NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- As he prepares to head to federal prison later this month, George Santos appeared to give up hope on a presidential pardon and told his social media followers that foul play will be to blame if he dies behind bars.
The former U.S. congressman was sentenced to more than seven years in prison in April after pleading guilty to federal wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. He must report to prison by July 25.
Santos took to X on Wednesday afternoon with a head-turning announcement: “I’m heading to prison, folks and I need you to hear this loud and clear: I’m not suicidal. I’m not depressed. I have no intentions of harming myself, and I will not willingly engage in any sexual activity while I’m in there.”
“If anything comes out suggesting otherwise, consider it a lie…full stop,” he continued.
“The statistics around what happens to gay men in BOP custody are horrifying, and that’s exactly why I’m putting this out there now. So if something does happen, there’s no confusion,” Santos added.
“I did NOT kill myself,” he ended the post.
Santos also responded to a follower who expressed hope Santos would be pardoned by President Donald Trump.
After his sentencing, Santos' lead attorney, Joseph W. Murray, told 1010 WINS that he was preparing to submit a request for a pardon to Trump.
“We look forward to presenting our case to the president,” Murray said at the time. “I think when they hear the evidence, the president is going to look favorably on this.”
But Santos sounded less optimistic about a potential presidential pardon on Wednesday, responding, “It’s not coming and even if it does chances are it will be too late based on the odds.”
