NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — A man who scaled the George Washington Bridge on Saturday and caused massive traffic delays due to the large police response surrendered to authorities in the afternoon, the NYPD said.
Police responded to the scene when at least one person was spotted climbing the suspension bridge’s south side.
There were initial reports that stated there were as many as three people climbing the bridge, with information from the FDNY.
One man surrendered to police about three and a half hours after the incident began, and was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center for evaluation.

It was not immediately clear if the man will be facing charges. Police would not confirm or deny whether the man was protesting, emotionally disturbed or climbing the bridge for another purpose.
While police activity has cleared, Port Authority wrote on X at 4:15 p.m. that the George Washington Bridge is still suffering extensive delays across the Hudson River from Fort Lee. Commuters are encouraged to take alternative routes.
By 5 p.m., the bridge's lower level delay was at 60 minutes, while the upper level delay was 75 minutes.
At traffic’s peak, there was a delay of at least 90 minutes on the bridge.
